Intercultural Trainer and South Korean Culture Consultant
I was born in Seoul, South Korea and traveled the world with my family because of my father's international job in trade promotion for South Korea. I spent my early childhood years in Vietnam, grew up as a Third Culture Kid in Kenya and spent more than 30 years in the United States. I identify as Korean American and currently live and work in Nuremberg, Germany. I moved to Germany from the US with my British/German husband and our two teenagers plus a dog in 2019. In the US, I wore many professional hats as an international educator, entrepreneur, teaching artist, interpreter and Korean Culture consultant.
The cultural adjustment to German life was one of the biggest challenges I have ever encountered. I was naive about the language barrier and did not quite prepare myself and our family to the new and different way of everything German. It sure was a wake up call and also caused some personal hardships affecting my mental health. Eventually I restarted my freelance business, Korea Konnect, and started collaborating with international companies and local organizations.
After 6 years living in Germany, I am hoping to eventually return to the US and am pretty interested in learning about various repatriation topics.
When I am not planning my future adventures, I try to enjoy the moment and continue to work as an intercultural trainer. In addition, I offer cooking, consulting and drumming programs to promote South Korean culture.
